We Welcome Dr. Deirdre Good

This Sunday, May 5th, we are delighted to Welcome Dr. Deirdre Good as our preacher! Dr. Good serves on the faculty of the Stevenson School for Ministry in the Diocese of Central Pennsylvania. She has been theologian in residence at Trinity Wall Street (2016-2018) and was Interim Associate Dean for Academic Affairs at Drew University from 2016-2017. Prior to her position at Drew, Dr. Good left her position as the academic dean at General Theological Seminary in New York City where she was on the faculty at General from 1986-2015 as Professor of New Testament. She is a graduate of the University of St. Andrews, Cambridge University, Union Theological Seminary, and Harvard University Divinity School, where she completed her doctoral studies. Dr. Good is the author of many scholarly articles and the author and co-author of numerous books, including Jesus’ Family Values, Jesus the Meek King, and Mariam, the Magdalen, and the Mother. Her most recent book, Courage Beyond Fear: Re-Formation in Theological Education, co-edited with Katie Day, will make it’s Ascension debut at a book reading this Saturday, May 4th, at 4:00 p.m. in the Parish Hall.

Parish News: December 21

This week, the rector reflects on Advent’s invitation to hope when circumstances feel bleak or overwhelming. Drawing on Isaiah’s story of King Ahaz and Matthew’s account of Joseph, she explores the tension between realism and trust—between protecting ourselves from disappointment and daring to imagine what God might do. These texts challenge us to notice where cynicism or caution keeps us from hope, and to consider the risks of faithful dreaming. Advent asks whether we can trust that God is truly with us, even in the messiness and brokenness of our world.
