On Tuesday, October 4th, Ascension Outreach and Resistance Cinema Present: The Return at 6:30 p.m. in the Parish House at 12 West 11th Street. In 2012, California amended its “Three Strikes” law, shortening the sentences of thousands of “lifers.” See this unprecedented reform through the eyes of those on the front lines — prisoners suddenly freed, families turned upside down and attorneys and judges wrestling with an untested law. Our guest speaker panel will be led by Former NJ Governor Jim McGreevey, Executive Director of Jersey City Employment and Training, which provides “re-entry” coaching for those released from prison. The film screening is free. H.

This week, the rector reflects on the power and purpose of The Prayers of the People, a vital expression of our shared faith and compassion. Through these prayers, we lift up the needs of our world — those who are ill, grieving, or oppressed — and give thanks for the blessings that sustain us. She shares two urgent petitions from the wider church: for Ali Faqirzada, an asylum seeker detained by ICE, and Layan Nasir, a Palestinian Christian held without charge. Mother Liz invites us to persist in prayer for justice and to practice gratitude that strengthens and unites our community.
