Our neighbors at First Presbyterian Church are celebrating their 300th anniversary the weekend of January 23-24. On Sunday, January 24 at 4 pm, they are hosting a lecture entitled “God in Gotham: Three Hundred Years of Changes to City and Church”, given by Dr. Kenneth T. Jackson, professor of History and Social Sciences at Columbia University. All are invited, and no doubt some of First Presbyterian’s history overlaps significantly with ours at the Church of the Ascension!

This week our associate rector, Father Ed, reflects on late summer’s quieter rhythm in the city and the subtle shifts in energy he observes while making pastoral calls. He contrasts the effects of anxiety-inducing news cycles with the neurological benefits of worship and faith community—the oxytocin and endorphins that come from fellowship. He encourages us to keep returning to church, trusting that our shared spiritual practice sustains hope.
