John Scott, Organist and Director of Music at St. Thomas Church, is perhaps the most distinguished British organist of his generation, having served as Organist and Director of Music at St. Paul’s Cathedral in London for many years and having played in virtually every important organ venue in Europe and the United States.
Scott is also one of the few major organists equally at home with Early Music and with repertory from the 19th and 20th centuries. His program will therefore show the amazing eclectic range of The Manton Memorial Organ. The first half of the concert will feature major works of Bach and other Baroque composers played from the mechanical (“tracker-action”) console, using the core Baroque stops of the instrument; then, after intermission, he will switch to the large electric-action console for a selection of Romantic works, revealing rich, symphonic sounds.
