Parish Annual Meeting

In accordance with the Religious Corporations Law of the State of New York, the Annual Meeting of The Church of the Ascension in the City of New York will be held on Sunday, January 27, 2013, immediately following the 11 a.m. service, for the purpose of electing a Warden for a term of two years, four Vestry members to the Class of 2016, and one Vestry member to the Class of 2015, and for the conduct of such other business as should come before the Parish.

The agenda for the Annual Meeting includes the following:

• Opening collect; elect Presiding Officer of the meeting
• Opening of polls and ballot distribution in the Sacristy
• Luncheon in the Parish Hall
• Invocation followed by appointment of secretary
• Report of minutes from Annual Meeting on January 29, 2012
• Treasurer’s Report for 2012 and 2013 Operating Budget
• Associate Rector’s and Wardens’ Remarks
• Planned Giving at Ascension (Gretchen Dumler)
• Update from Rector Search Committee (Meredith Ward, Chair)
• Questions and Answers
• Announcement of Election results

Parish News: March 16

In this week’s newsletter, Mother Liz reflects on Jesus’ deep grief and longing as he laments over Jerusalem, using the image of a mother hen gathering her chicks — a scene depicted in a mosaic at the Dominus Flevit Church on the Mount of Olives. In the face of a broken world, we are reminded that God not only weeps for us but with us. Lent can be a season of lament, but also one of comfort and renewal, as we take shelter under God’s loving, mothering wings and find strength for the work ahead. On Sunday we are delighted to welcome the Rev. Megan Sanders as our guest preacher and forum leader! Mother Megan is chaplain to Canterbury Downtown and staff in charge of the Episcopal Diocese of New York’s Young Adult Network.
