About Us
The Church of the Ascension in New York City is a welcoming, progressive Episcopal parish in historic Greenwich Village. Known as the Church of the Open Door, we will celebrate our 200th anniversary in 2027. Musical excellence is a hallmark of our heritage, built under the leadership of Jessie Craig Adams, Vernon de Tar and Dennis Keene. Sparking their work: the excellent acoustics of the Richard Upjohn-designed nave and, since 2011, the Manton Memorial Organ. These set off the excellent chorus of largely professional musicians on Sundays and other special services.
