Discussion, June 4:
Strive for Justice & Peace

Dear People of Ascension,

This Thursday, June 4, at 6:30 pm EDT we will have a Zoom conversation about what next steps we at Ascension are called to take to confront, unlearn and dismantle racism and white supremacy in our own lives, our church and our larger society. Grounded in our baptismal covenant, we will explore what it means to truly love our neighbor in this time, as we seek to build the beloved community God intends.

We are all on our own journeys in this work. We have different histories, different gifts and roles to play, different needs for learning, repentance and healing. But we must act, both personally and as a community of faith. This is a long-term process, but we must begin where we are- here, in this time of crisis.

Please let me know if you have questions, concerns or suggestions about this work. I hope to see you on Thursday. The link for the Zoom meeting is below.

With prayer for justice, and for us all,
Liz

Newsletter

Parish News: May 24

In this week’s newsletter, the rector notes Pentecost’s reversal of Babel—not by restoring a single language, but by enabling understanding across difference as each speaks and hears in their own tongue. She treasures hearing parishioners read “God’s deeds of power” in many languages during worship, and invites us to consider what it means to speak of God in our own heart language—whether shaped by mother tongue, place, trust, or profound shared experience. In a time of contempt for difference, Pentecost reveals the blessing of many tongues and the Holy Spirit’s gift of mutual understanding across culture, faith, and ethnic background.
