A screening of Disparity will take place on Thursday, October 17th at 7:00 p.m. in the Church. Ascension Outreach, Inc. is proud to host a special film/discussion event on behalf of the work of our neighboring New Sanctuary Coalition. A powerful new documentary – Disparity – will be premier this evening. The film is made possible through the efforts of the International Federation of Journalists (IFJ) which is working with a coalition of civil society organizations to increase awareness of global structural socio-economic inequalities –– and critiques the “aid” which benefits donors more than recipients. The film features prominent economists and Nobel laureates. Discussion will follow the free screening. Please spread the word – join us and bring along any and all who wish to learn more about ways to help change social systems for the better.

Parish News: May 17
In this week’s newsletter, Mother Liz celebrates the parish’s feast day with Malcolm Guite’s sonnet on the Ascension, exploring its paradoxes: ending and beginning, absence and presence, humanity and divinity. Jesus leaves the disciples to fill all things with even more profound intimacy, and it is his broken, still-wounded body—”the heart that broke for all the broken hearted”—that ascends to God’s heart. The rector invites us to sit with these mysteries during the “dazzling darkness” between Ascension and Pentecost, pondering how we are held and hidden with Christ while called to be his presence in a world of crisis, wonder, and grief.
