Ascension Outreach and Resistance Cinema present monthly films at 7:00pm in the Parish House of The Church of the Ascension, 12 West 11th Street, usually on the first Tuesday. On Tuesday, October 3, 2017 we present From One Mistake: A New Film on Immigration Reform, along with Hendel Leiva, the filmmaker. Mr. Leiva will join us for a discussion about his first documentary film which explores many sides of the immigration issue and a journey to self-awareness, empowerment and action in the midst of a hostile political environment. Screenings are free and donations are accepted.

On Sunday, October 15th at 12:30pm an Ascension Forum will focus on immigration and sanctuary in a conversation with Marco Saavedra, a 27 year old undocumented writer, painter and immigration activist.   Here is a link to a flyer for that event.

In the face of a broken world, we are reminded that God not only weeps for us but with us. Lent can be a season of lament, but also one of comfort and renewal, as we take shelter under God’s loving, mothering wings and find strength for the work ahead. On Sunday we are delighted to welcome the Rev. Megan Sanders as our guest preacher and forum leader! Mother Megan is chaplain to Canterbury Downtown and staff in charge of the Episcopal Diocese of New York’s Young Adult Network.
