This Sunday, January 29, 2017, in accordance with the Religious Corporations Law of the State of New York, we will hold the Annual Meeting of The Church of the Ascension in the City of New York. The meeting will take place immediately following the 11 a.m. service for the purpose of electing a Warden for a term of two years, four Vestry members to the Class of 2020 for three year terms and two to fill unexpired two year terms in the class of 2019, and for the conduct of such other business as should come before the Parish.

The polls will be open for at least one hour, beginning at the conclusion of the 9:00 am service that day (so those attending the early service can vote), and ending after the meeting is called to order, at the discretion of the presiding officer. Eligible voters may request absentee ballots from the church office by email or telephone. Absentee ballots not received in the office by noon on the Friday before the Annual Meeting (or placed in the ballot box) will not be replaced or counted. Your presence, participation, and vote are very important! In addition to needing you so we have a quorum, we want you to hear the review of the 2017 budget, hear reports from various parish committees and have the opportunity to ask your questions about the state of the parish.

She observes that when Mary Magdalene mistakes the risen Christ for a gardener, we glimpse the deep interconnection of all beings—and when we touch creation’s wounds with reverence and compassion, we meet God. Quoting Robin Wall Kimmerer, the rector reminds us that “when we work to heal the earth, the earth heals us,” and invites us to deepen our love and commitment to our fragile, beautiful planet.
