Trigger & gun violenceAscension Outreach, Inc., in collaboration with Resistance Cinema, presents “Trigger: The Ripple Effect of Gun Violence” (2015, 55 min) on Tuesday, July 5th at 7pm with special guest, Leah Barrett from New Yorkers Against Gun Violence. Ms. Barrett will lead a post screening discussion.

In light of recent events – and a building need to address underlying cultural issues – we believe it is essential to initiate and continue cogent, accurate and informative discussion regarding access to firearms and the violent behaviors attendant. To that end, we are offering this documentary film screening that will share a great deal of helpful insights. The film shares the stories of individuals who encounter gun violence in various sectors of our communities: parents, children and siblings of victims, school teachers, trauma surgeons, law enforcement, legislators, pastors and grief counselors. Although we often think of a bullet as being an end, for those affected, it is only the beginning.

She shares two urgent petitions from the wider church: for Ali Faqirzada, an asylum seeker detained by ICE, and Layan Nasir, a Palestinian Christian held without charge. Mother Liz invites us to persist in prayer for justice and to practice gratitude that strengthens and unites our community.
