Gather Together or Scatter

That we may walk in the way of his cross

That we may walk in the way of his crossI am blessed living in NYC. The environment and culture makes this an exciting place to reside. Yet, our lives are filled with clamoring people who relish in causing confusion and division amongst us, especially during this election cycle. It can be very overwhelming.

We can easily lose our way to those negative voices around us but today’s passages reminds us of one thing — if we follow God’s plans, our paths will be clear and we will be stronger as a whole. As Jesus said, “Every kingdom divided against itself becomes a desert.” Our focus should be on uniting with each other not fighting. Satan relishes in our conflicts so we must be strong and follow Jesus’ teachings; otherwise, as He states, “whoever does not gather with me scatters.”

Pushing away our Syrian neighbors, building walls between countries, casting away those who are different than us are all examples of our divided house. As suggested in Jeremiah, if we do not learn from the mistakes of the past, then our actions today are worse. Let us fight against the divisiveness around us, learn from our mistakes, find joy in inclusiveness, and unite in our faith.

Parish News: April 26

In this week’s newsletter, Mother Liz celebrates Earth Month alongside Eastertide, noting how resurrection speaks not only to humanity but to “the groaning of the whole creation” and God’s determination to make all things new. She observes that when Mary Magdalene mistakes the risen Christ for a gardener, we glimpse the deep interconnection of all beings—and when we touch creation’s wounds with reverence and compassion, we meet God. Quoting Robin Wall Kimmerer, the rector reminds us that “when we work to heal the earth, the earth heals us,” and invites us to deepen our love and commitment to our fragile, beautiful planet.
