frmarkThis Sunday, June 30th, we welcome The Rev. Mark Hummell from New York University’s new campus in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates where Fr. Mark provides counseling and crisis management to college students and also consults with faculty and staff. Fr. Mark was instrumental in the development of the spiritual life at NYU Abu Dhabi helping the students create Christian, Muslim, Hindu and Jewish groups on the campus. On the weekends, Fr. Mark is an assisting clergy at St. Andrew’s Church in Abu Dhabi, providing leadership in worship services and pastoral care. Prior to his call at NYU, Fr. Mark was the Associate Rector at Ascension & Executive Director of Ascension Outreach from 2007-2010.

Before Ascension, he was the Associate Director of Episcopal Charities of the Diocese of New York and an Assisting Priest at the Cathedral Church of St. John the Divine. He served as the Chair of the Diocesan Social Concerns Commission. Fr. Mark earned his Master of Divinity from Yale University, where he received the R. William Muehl Award for Excellence in Preaching. Although he has traveled to 19 countries in the last 3 years, he still has not found a choir as good as the one at Ascension–anywhere in the world!

In the face of a broken world, we are reminded that God not only weeps for us but with us. Lent can be a season of lament, but also one of comfort and renewal, as we take shelter under God’s loving, mothering wings and find strength for the work ahead. On Sunday we are delighted to welcome the Rev. Megan Sanders as our guest preacher and forum leader! Mother Megan is chaplain to Canterbury Downtown and staff in charge of the Episcopal Diocese of New York’s Young Adult Network.
