What reassurance the psalms bring! Not only in the cadence of their delivery but in their musicality, lulling one away from the anxieties of life and the false question of: How shall I manage this? “No!” the psalms say, in their soothing rhythms, before the words even sink in. “I got you.” And then the tonic of the words, mingling with conscious understanding, beyond the music, from Psalm 46:1:
God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.
Amen, say I as, held now by God on many levels, I continue to read, to be held, to relinquish my worries to the fathomless power of the Lord. Trouble, it seems, is a part of the mix, as is the fact of God’s refuge and ever provided strength.
