A very special concert will take place in the church on Monday, March 11 at 8:00pm. INSTRUMENTAL is a sacred meditation concert for pipe organ, cello, viola, clarinet, flute, and two alto vocalists. Inspired by Gregorian Chant and the 7pm Meditation Services of Church of the Ascension, the music of INSTRUMENTAL will provide space for meditation and deep reflection. This is the world premier of INSTRUMENTAL and will be the first concert of an national tour of the performance in 2019. Coleman Zurkowski is an experimental classical composer based in New York City and is a parishioner of Church of the Ascension. After attending the 7pm Meditation and Sacrament Services for two years, he was inspired to compose a concert of his own music in the same vein. Appropriately, the performance will be held in the space it was inspired by, the Church of the Ascension. Coleman, as a parishioner, looks forward to sharing his music with the community of the Church. Admission is $10.
Coleman composes music for television and film as well as music of his own. He studied with Kurt Westerberg at DePaul University in Chicago, IL as well as Michael Pisaro and Wolfgang von Schweinitz at the California Institute of the Arts in Los Angeles, CA.
