trinity 2This Sunday, May 31st, we will celebrate Trinity Sunday: 9am Holy Eucharist in All Saints Chapel; 11am Holy Eucharist in the church with sermon and soloist; 7pm Service of Meditations and Sacrament including chant, interfaith readings and communion. Prelude at 10:45am and postlude after the service on The Manton Memorial organ. Special Coffee Hour this Sunday: We will celebrate Charles Hill’s 90th birthday after the 11 o’clock service in the Parish Hall. Congratulations to Charles and Liz!

Also, note the post below about organizing a volunteer choir for the 11am service during the summer months when our regular choir is off (June, July, August, Labor Day weekend.) If you (or someone you know) would like to sing, send an email to denniskeene at ascensionnyc.org and provide the following information: name, email address, phone number, voice part, have you sung in a choir before, do you read music, and how many of the 14 Sundays would you realistically be able to sing. He looks forward to receiving your emails and hopes we can launch this. It will be great fun!

In this week’s newsletter, Mother Liz reflects on Jesus’ deep grief and longing as he laments over Jerusalem, using the image of a mother hen gathering her chicks — a scene depicted in a mosaic at the Dominus Flevit Church on the Mount of Olives. In the face of a broken world, we are reminded that God not only weeps for us but with us. Lent can be a season of lament, but also one of comfort and renewal, as we take shelter under God’s loving, mothering wings and find strength for the work ahead. On Sunday we are delighted to welcome the Rev. Megan Sanders as our guest preacher and forum leader! Mother Megan is chaplain to Canterbury Downtown and staff in charge of the Episcopal Diocese of New York’s Young Adult Network.
