Organistic yet daringly orchestral, Widor’s Symphonie 8 represents the summit of his ideal for the form. Its scale is monumental, the longest of all of his Symphonies and, when finished in 1887, it was the peak of organ composition for its time, having pushed the resources of the instrument to its limits. Franck’s famous and beloved Three Chorals were his last compositions. They remain the most revered organ works composed in the 19th Century.
