Although Lent is a serious time of reflection as we head into the Passion of our Lord….it is also a wonderful opportunity to teach the kids in a fun way about family tradition and our Christian faith.

During the Children’s Lesson this Sunday we will be inviting the kids to help prepare the palms for Ash Wednesday. Lots of “crunching” of last years dried palms will take place. If you still have your palms from last year please bring them to the service. Then, following the service as we enjoy a fun community meal, we will gather in the garden to safely burn the palms the kids prepared and turn them into the ashes the priests will administer on Ash Wednesday, March 5th, at our 8am, noon and 7pm services. We also have Lenten calendars for the children to take home with them so the whole family can have fun with stickers and stories as they walk through Lent together.

Each Sunday in Lent our Children’s Lesson will include a special opportunity for the kids to look forward to our Holy Week celebrations…much like our Advent gatherings that led us into the Nativity. On Palm Sunday the children will lead us in our annual procession of the newly blessed palms welcoming Jesus to Jerusalem. This year we will open the Palm Sunday service with a celebratory song by the Children’s Choir. If you would like your child to join in this years choir please contact Amaranta. Look for the special invitation to join the choir this Sunday.

We hope you will join us for each of the Sunday’s ahead. Nursery and Sunday School will be available every Sunday during the 11am service. If there is anything we can do to add to your family faith experience at Ascension please let us know. We are dedicated to growing our children’s faith in God and His deep love for them in the world.

I look forward to seeing you all soon. Much love and blessing to each and every one of you. – Mother Shelley
